Presenter: Bob Iseminger
Core Area: Creativity and Instructional Strategies
Grade Level: Elementary & Secondary
Hours: 1

Can you imagine driving a race car with only bicycle brakes to stop you? In this digital age, our students’ brains have been trained like race cars by the volume and speed of information that they have been processing since a very young age. But what happens when they must slow down and process information in a non-digital setting, like a classroom? In this course you will learn how to identify the effects of digital media on students and how to apply proven methods for adding depth and complexity to your AP and pre-AP classrooms.

  • Auditory/sequential and visual/spatial processing
  • How the brain supports many types of learning
  • R.A.F.T. & Think-Tac-Toe activities

I think it’s helpful for any class, not just a pre-AP or AP class, especially with regards to Left-Hemisphere/Right-Hemisphere thinking and different learning styles.

Most of the valuable information was in the beginning

  24. Jenny – UNITED ISD (verified owner)

The student resembled a dependent conformer. The student’s reading level was well above grade level but student did very little reading. The class had a reading goal each six weeks and the student never reached the goal. The class had an individual tracker to track reading and progress. Towards the end of the year student started reading more but not to her full potential. All students chose their own reading material.

  25. Doris J. – UNITED ISD (verified owner)

    Very interesting

  31. Andrew – PROSPER ISD (verified owner)

The course title is not all what this course is about. While there are some interesting things to take away from this course, it did not discuss depth and complexity and was really all over the place when it came to discussing GT students and how to engage them.

Very good & insightful course on how kids think & what techniques to use & stop using in class.

  40. William – PFLUGERVILLE ISD (verified owner)

A lot of good things, but the data on over stimulation of kids due to technology is the same argument people have been making since the Roman Empire. Class structures were golden, though.

  41. Charla – PFLUGERVILLE ISD (verified owner)

I liked some of the strategies such as Take a Stand

  42. Amy – LEANDER ISD (verified owner)
