Description
In this 6-hour course, Lisa Van Gemert, highlights the importance of differentiated instruction in meeting the needs of every student with a focus on gifted students. She presents practical classroom strategies and draws a clear distinction between differentiation and “more-ferentiation” (or simply offering more work to gifted students). This course includes practical applications and downloadable handouts.
Broken up into five modules, Ms. Van Gemert provides in-depth information on:
- Guiding principles and key ideas for implementation
- Tactics for creating an environment for differentiation
- Strategies for content (including depth, complexity and student interest)
- The learning process (including options for tiering instruction)

It gave me great resources and opened my eyes up to tru differentiation. It is a word we use often but I believe it has become a buzz word and until now I do not think I was doing it correctly.
Julie – NEDERLAND ISD (verified owner) –
It helped to understand the difference between tiering and compacting, as well as helpful resources to use in class.

Cathey – LUBBOCK ISD (verified owner) –
This course offered so many great strategies and resources on how to differentiate the environment, content, process, and product. Many of these strategies and resources can be implemented immediately. One of my favorite parts of this course was Lisa’s explanation of how to plan for differentiation: start with the high ability first, then copy and paste, making changes and adjustments where needed.

Megan – ECTOR COUNTY ISD (verified owner) –
Informational with resources and how to use them effectively in classroom
Timothy – ECTOR COUNTY ISD (verified owner) –
Much more interesting than the first course. Very practical and simplified. Again just like the previous course Lisa has scratched the surface again in a lot of resources and ideas that I need to look up and read about. Every educator need to learn this. Differentiation as I perceive it right now will even help in bot classroom and behavioral management as well as time management. Well put to say that it is the norm

Ashley – CARROLL ISD (verified owner) –
I enjoyed this course. I am taking this online. I wish I had the handouts in front of me to reference for the questions because we are covering a lot of info.
Leanne – GALVESTON ISD (verified owner) –
The first thing she asked the class was about the barriers to differentiation. The number one response, and mine as well, was TIME.
And then she never addressed that concern.
She gave a pre-test and then didn’t differentiate for the needs of her students.
I’ve been teaching for 22 years, and what I needed from her was innovation how to do more with less time and no money.
She only restated basic concepts all mid-career teachers know BUT CAN’T FIND THE TIME to consistently implement.
Would not recommend.
