“Gifted, ADHD, Either, Neither, or Both?” with Debra Troxclair, Ph.D., will explore the idea that many characteristics that don’t seem "normal" are actually very "typical" traits of giftedness.

In this 1-hour course, you will learn:

    I think a lot of the speakers’ comments were a little out-of-date and out-of-touch. She made an off-hand comment about Alzheimer’s and made a comment about girls vs. boys that was very stereotypical. The speaker speaks too much of her own personal experience like it is as authoritative as clinical research.

    I really enjoyed this course, the speaker is incredibly knowledgeable and experienced in her field. However, I do worry that some of the research presented is outdated (some of it coming from 20-30 years ago). I believe we have learned a lot more about ADHD and its relationship to Autism since these studies were published and even more so in the distinctions between how it manifests in women vs. men. Much of the material is absolutely still applicable and helpful, but there is new information to be added. I also feel like access to “competent” diagnosticians is fewer and further between and harder to get an appointment with.

    I feel there was good information shared by the presenter, but there was a great deal of personal statements and stories about her child. I would like more overarching reviews within a classroom rather than the presenter’s personal experiences. Additionally, I think there was opportunity to update information and integrate more up to date information. She referred to the 50s and 60s, when really we need to consider the less distant past of education.
