Description
“Gifted, ADHD, Either, Neither, or Both?” with Debra Troxclair, Ph.D., will explore the idea that many characteristics that don’t seem "normal" are actually very "typical" traits of giftedness.
In this 1-hour course, you will learn:
- The similarities and differences of characteristics and behaviors of giftedness and ADHD
- Why giftedness is often misdiagnosed as ADHD
- How to help other educators understand what to do if a gifted child is suspected of having ADHD
- Suggestions for supporting the self-concepts of gifted and highly creative children

This course was extremely beneficial as a teacher and parent of a child with giftedness. It allowed me to see how executive functions within the information processing model relate to attention, thinking, and response components. I found it interesting how the presenter described the behavior characteristics of gifted vs. ADHD kids and how similarly, yet different they could be. I think it’s important to acknowledge the misdiagnosis patterns to prevent misunderstandings in categorizing kids.
