Description
“Gifted, ADHD, Either, Neither, or Both?” with Debra Troxclair, Ph.D., will explore the idea that many characteristics that don’t seem "normal" are actually very "typical" traits of giftedness.
In this 1-hour course, you will learn:
- The similarities and differences of characteristics and behaviors of giftedness and ADHD
- Why giftedness is often misdiagnosed as ADHD
- How to help other educators understand what to do if a gifted child is suspected of having ADHD
- Suggestions for supporting the self-concepts of gifted and highly creative children

I really enjoyed this presentation as I personally have an ADHD/Gifted child. I could tell very early on that my child was gifted as you could watch him as he tried to analyze things (you could almost see the wheels in his head turning). Just like the presenter, I had to request for testing of GT for him. In the first school district they really didn’t believe me, but when we moved him to another school district, the teacher was very open to it and saw the characteristics that I saw. He did qualify for GT and he is still diagnosed ADHD. Hopefully, more teachers will have taken this course and are open to seeing both sides.
