Description
Making sure gifted students have quality instruction and challenging assignments is widely popular in the education world. But do you know exactly what it means to be gifted and why it matters? This six-hour course, “Identification & Assessment of the Gifted,” addresses issues surrounding gifted students and practical ways to identify them.
Lisa Van Gemert, a leading voice in gifted education, shares an overview of the history of gifted education and its importance today. Educators will also learn how to tell whether or not a student is gifted by using different tests and assessments. Teachers who have a thorough understanding of how to identify and assess gifted students will be able to equip and challenge these students better.
In this informative course educators will learn:
- What it means to be gifted
- Characteristics of gifted children
- How to test intelligence
- The importance of CLD populations
- Traits of twice-exceptional students

I think race is a very important topic to discuss in education, it’s particularly important for people outside of minorities to discuss this. However, I think we should also be accountable about how we talk about race. When discuss black people and white people I think it’s important to not refer to us as “blacks” because it turns “black people” into the noun “black” and removes “people from the conversation. This goes the same about referring to white people as “white”.

I really liked this course. As a first year teacher, I have done many trainings in the past 5 months and this is by far the best I have taken. Sure, the topics are interesting in themselves, but Lisa did an awesome job of presenting the information and her own personal beliefs. It is very rare to have a training where you deeply believe in the personal ideas of the trainer. Awesome!
