Description
Students who score well on the screening test are considered for special educational programming and their needs, interests, and abilities are matched with the services that the school offers. But what about talented students who slip through the cracks of current screening methods. In this 1-hour course David Lohman, Ph.D., shares tools to design a screening program that avoids the twin pitfalls of failing to identify students who should be included or wrongly including students who do not need special services.
Dr. Lohman provides:
- Examples of exemplary practices
- The difference between identification and selection
- Distinctions between “gifted” and “talented”
- The elements of screening
- Common pitfalls illustrated using the CogAT Form 7 Screening Form

The course was very hard to follow and understand. The information was geared more for someone very interested in statistics or becoming involved in choosing tests to be administered to children–not a general classroom teacher.
Suzette – UNITED ISD (verified owner) –
I think this course is very relevant to personnel in-charge of the selection of GT students. It is not an easy course and is very lengthy.

Since I’m a classroom teacher and not the one who administers the testing to prospective GT students, this wasn’t as helpful to me.
Analise – MIDWAY ISD – WOODWAY (verified owner) –
For a classroom teacher, this was not the most beneficial course. However, if you are involved in screening for GT students, this could be helpful even though it is a bit tedious.
