Description

Students who score well on the screening test are considered for special educational programming and their needs, interests, and abilities are matched with the services that the school offers. But what about talented students who slip through the cracks of current screening methods. In this 1-hour course David Lohman, Ph.D., shares tools to design a screening program that avoids the twin pitfalls of failing to identify students who should be included or wrongly including students who do not need special services.

Dr. Lohman provides:

  • Examples of exemplary practices
  • The difference between identification and selection
  • Distinctions between “gifted” and “talented”
  • The elements of screening
  • Common pitfalls illustrated using the CogAT Form 7 Screening Form

As a teacher, I will not be the one writing the GT screening test. This was not helpful to me at all

  2. Erika – PFLUGERVILLE ISD (verified owner)

    Good

  3. Angela – PFLUGERVILLE ISD (verified owner)

    to long

  7. Victoria – FRONTIER LOCAL (verified owner)

This was too complicated for the average classroom teacher.

  8. Terry – SCHERTZ-CIBOLO-U CITY ISD (verified owner)

This presentation is geared toward gifted and talented coordinators and testing supervisors. NONE of this information is really useful to a line teacher because it discusses policies and practices that are decided not by teachers but by administrators. The presenter spoke quickly, thus taking notes as he spoke was very difficult. Why this is in a 6-hour annual GT certification update, I have no clue. No instructional strategies were mentioned and covered with any depth. This presenter was selling his test, the cogAT test.

  9. Sylvia – PHARR-SAN JUAN-ALAMO ISD (verified owner)

    It was very insighful

  10. Norma – SOUTHWEST ISD (verified owner)

cThe content was challenging based on the measurements used to identify students who may be considered gifted and talented and students who have ‘the potential’ to succeed. The concept is based on subjective reasoning.

  11. Jennifer – PFLUGERVILLE ISD (verified owner)

I liked the content but the presentation was disjointed at times and was hard to follow, some of the information was good but was evident he was trying to promote his product of CogAT.

  12. Amy – CLEBURNE ISD (verified owner)

Extremely interesting when trying to revamp your assessment process.

  13. Peter – TEAYS VALLEY LOCAL (verified owner)

Really, really, long and dry. Don’t get me wrong, this is fascinating information. But it felt slow and dragged. It definitely gives me good ideas for testing considerations. I just wonder if the information could have been contained in a shorter presentation.

  30. CINDY B – SOCORRO ISD (verified owner)

    Too complex

  32. Kirza – CLEBURNE ISD (verified owner)

Information was not clear. Information presented in confusing format. Not able to look back at content to answer open ended questions. Answer was deleted if moved from question.

The Quiz was ridiculous! I have taken several courses and have not missed a single one, the reflective question #4 should not be on there.

  47. Gloria – LAREDO ISD (verified owner)

Verbally effective but the slide show does not provide exactly what the speaker is explaining. I am more visual.
