Description
Motivation and achievement are common characteristics of gifted children, but how do we help the G/T students who aren’t meeting to their full potential? In “Motivation and Underachievement”, a 1-hour course, James T. Webb, Ph.D. dispels the myth that every gifted child is excelling in every area. He also provides strategies for identifying core issues and motivating students to their full potential.
You will learn:
- What it means for a G/T child to be unmotivated
- Four main reasons why gifted children underachieve
- Factors that enhance and facilitate student growth
- Practical strategies you can use in the classroom

I think this is really important, but the presentation just meandered. I did not appreciate the generalizations about the “African American community” and the idea of “ditz effect” in women by the presenter. I found these offensive and irrelevant to the task and topic at hand.
Carla – CARROLLTON-FARMERS BRANCH ISD (verified owner) –
This is very informative
Christopher – DEL VALLE ISD (verified owner) –
not immediately useful or groundbreaking
Maria – FABENS ISD (verified owner) –
It was very informative. Make sure you are in a quiet area, because here is a lot of content he speaks about and if you do it where there is a lot of noise you might miss something.

Emily – PFLUGERVILLE ISD (verified owner) –
This is elementary specific, and once again is facilitated by a white person. These trainings have an almost total lack of diversity.
Melissa – DEL VALLE ISD (verified owner) –
the information was great, but the speakers tone of voice was so soothing I almost fell asleep.
Nat – NORTHSIDE ISD – SAN ANTONIO – REGION 20 (verified owner) –
I enjoyed the presentation – generally. It was good for me to refocus on some of the reasons for lack of student motivation. Most importantly, I was reminded that I need to start where the student is – not expect them to just “be motivated” because I want them to be, or because they will fail if they are not.
