One of the most important foundational aspects of working with gifted students is developing a deep understanding of them. What motivates them? How do they think? And how do they learn? Joyce Juntune, Ph.D. answers these questions and more in this 6-hour course. Dr. Juntune focuses on the nature and needs of gifted students, including the characteristics, social-emotional needs, and programming options. Understanding your gifted students is the starting point for preparing them for life-long success.
In this course you’ll learn to:
- Understand sources of energy in gifted students
- Identify indicators of giftedness
- Differentiate between high achievers and gifted students
- Understand statistical distribution
- Identify the four types of gifted students
- And much more!

I felt this course was packed with incredible information that teachers may not have received otherwise while enrolled in a traditional educator prep program. It is just as important to advocate for gifted services for students who come from poverty as it is to help those students who struggle to meet satisfactory work in class.

This has opened my eyes to the extreme importance of having trained teachers to work with gifted students. It’s not enough that they just “get” the material in an average classroom. They need to be provided with the content and environment that challenges them and allows them to excel.
