No one can be a perfectionist because no one is perfect. And perfectionism is an occupational hazard of the gifted. Although giftedness and perfectionism often go hand-in-hand, perfectionism can have many “faces” and may look different in each individual. In this engaging and practical course, Lisa Van Gemert, M.Ed.T., explains how damaging perfectionism can be and how its strengths can be harnessed for good.

Overall the content was good. Some really good strategies were introduced. However, the presentation was completely out of sync. Most of the time the slides did not match with what the presenter was talking about, and the video automatically stopped in the middle of her sentences so frequently (in order for you to read something completely different on the slides), that I completely lost track of what she was talking about. I had to reference the PDF handout on almost every slide just so I could follow along. It was an extremely disjointed experience. I like to walk away from a presentation feeling excited about what I learned, not frustrated with the format. That didn’t happen with this one.

This course gives a perspective for some of the varying levels of perfectionist students. There are different kinds of perfectionist students and it is important to recognize and understand how to communicate with students who are perfectionist.
