Description
There is a far more engaging and effective way to teach high school English classes to gifted students than the common approach of teaching each class as a stand-alone unit. By merging Pre-AP English 1, 2 and AP Language into one cohesive program you can gain the maximum benefit for students.
This online course will show you how to focus each Pre-AP course around specific skill sets and themes, how to zero in on each individual student’s specific abilities and challenges, and how to incorporate all three Pre-AP courses into one program designed in such a way that students graduate with a full arsenal of writing and analytical skills that have been steadily built upon and expanded in a purposeful way.

It is helpful to think of the English I Pre-AP course as a transition class and not isolated.

Honestly, this course is very much geared towards a population I don’t have at my school. The instructor spends a lot of time talking about how her students are reading outside of class to gain the level of complexity needed for an AP course. Lovejoy ISD has only 4% of their students who are on free and reduced lunch, and a medium income way higher than the average in my classroom. This just isn’t feasible for the population of students I have, who are spending their outside time babysitting little brothers and sisters, working with their parents, and having way too many duties to read 7 classical and modern novels on their own. I didn’t feel that this course offered a realistic route to address these students, although it did provide some interesting ideas.
