Description
There is a far more engaging and effective way to teach high school English classes to gifted students than the common approach of teaching each class as a stand-alone unit. By merging Pre-AP English 1, 2 and AP Language into one cohesive program you can gain the maximum benefit for students.
This online course will show you how to focus each Pre-AP course around specific skill sets and themes, how to zero in on each individual student’s specific abilities and challenges, and how to incorporate all three Pre-AP courses into one program designed in such a way that students graduate with a full arsenal of writing and analytical skills that have been steadily built upon and expanded in a purposeful way.

The presentation was okay. In the presenters’ campus/district, there is a lot of autonomy and collaboration, plus a year worth of instruction, not to mention that the teacher sees the same students for two years; therefore, I don’t think this would truly help my instruction. I did learn a few things that I will try.

If we want our gifted/advanced students to develop as learners, it is important to scaffold their learning and skills as readers, writers, and critical thinkers just like we would with all other students. I think it is important we begin simply by renaming and reframing honors English 9 and 10 as Pre-AP English 1 and 2.
