Each year, thousands of gifted students go undiscovered in our classrooms. Without accurate identification, many of these students will never reach their full potential or benefit from the great resources available in our gifted programs. As teachers and educators in gifted education, one of our top priorities should be the screening, assessment, and identification of our gifted students.

Description

It used to be that intelligence and giftedness were solely based on I.Q. and test scores. As our understanding of giftedness and the brain has expanded, the means of assessing and identifying gifted students have also expanded. In this course, “Screening, Assessment, and Identification of the Gifted”, Joyce Juntune Ph.D., draws from her vast knowledge and experience in gifted education to present invaluable tools for identifying gifted students using a variety of different methods.

In this 6-hour course, you will learn about:

  • Definitions and unique characteristics of giftedness
  • The role of intelligence in gifted students
  • Methods of screening students for signs of giftedness
  • Suggestions and guidelines for gifted programs
  • Scoring tests
  • Differences between testing boys and girls

And much more!

This course is aligned with 2016 ODE Teacher Competencies e, f, g, and NAGC Teacher Preparation Standards 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3.

    I really liked the course.

  48. Andrea – SPRING BRANCH ISD (verified owner)

It was a good course, and Dr. Juntune was very knowledgeable and experienced in this area. A little bit of it wasn’t applicable to my situation just bc the district already laid out how they test for GT, but much of it was.

  49. Rachel – GREGORY-PORTLAND ISD (verified owner)

    Very interesting material presented.

  50. Laurie – HUTTO ISD (verified owner)

This is a good course, with lots of excellent ideas. I think the instructors talks a bit much in stereotypes, though (“gifted kids do this…gifted kids do that”…I think gifted kids are still individuals with unique traits. I did enjoy the course and learned a lot.
