Description

It used to be that intelligence and giftedness were solely based on I.Q. and test scores. As our understanding of giftedness and the brain has expanded, the means of assessing and identifying gifted students have also expanded. In this course, “Screening, Assessment, and Identification of the Gifted”, Joyce Juntune Ph.D., draws from her vast knowledge and experience in gifted education to present invaluable tools for identifying gifted students using a variety of different methods.

In this 6-hour course, you will learn about:

    I would give this five stars, however, the wording of two quiz questions was questionable. It made me second guess my responses, when my first guess was correct.

Some of the terminology used needs to be updated (for example, Asperger syndrome is not longer diagnosed, it all falls under ASD), and “college-aged girls” is not accurate, they would be college-aged women. However, the message is solid and the ideas presented are interesting.

    I think this course was good, I think the overall layout of the website should be adjusted to further engage the audience.

    There is some valuable information in this course, but some of the reasoning is woefully outdated. Additionally, the assessments are reflective of problems endemic in education, i.e., an overreliance on testing and pattern-recognition that does not actually reflect cognitive ability. The section on gifted girls and boys is especially troubling considering it places these students into predetermined bubbles.
