Each year, thousands of gifted students go undiscovered in our classrooms. Without accurate identification, many of these students will never reach their full potential or benefit from the great resources available in our gifted programs. As teachers and educators in gifted education, one of our top priorities should be the screening, assessment, and identification of our gifted students.

Description

It used to be that intelligence and giftedness were solely based on I.Q. and test scores. As our understanding of giftedness and the brain has expanded, the means of assessing and identifying gifted students have also expanded. In this course, “Screening, Assessment, and Identification of the Gifted”, Joyce Juntune Ph.D., draws from her vast knowledge and experience in gifted education to present invaluable tools for identifying gifted students using a variety of different methods.

In this 6-hour course, you will learn about:

  • Definitions and unique characteristics of giftedness
  • The role of intelligence in gifted students
  • Methods of screening students for signs of giftedness
  • Suggestions and guidelines for gifted programs
  • Scoring tests
  • Differences between testing boys and girls

And much more!

This course is aligned with 2016 ODE Teacher Competencies e, f, g, and NAGC Teacher Preparation Standards 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3.

    This course was very informative.

  2. Crisanta – EDINBURG CISD (verified owner)

Lot of information, but it is a lot useful information that one can take back to their classroom.

  3. Kevin – SOCORRO ISD (verified owner)

For something as important as GT education, I would much rather not do this virtually. Overall, however, the few activities presented seem to be helpful and useful for virtual learning.

  4. Ryan – SPRING ISD (verified owner)

Explained a lot about how to make GT students more comfortable in the classroom.

  5. Carlos – LAREDO ISD (verified owner)

    a+

    Great! Well put and organized.

  10. Neyda – DONNA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT (verified owner)

This course is very detailed about informing what a teacher should pay attention to in seeking traits of a GT student.

  11. Diana – UNITED ISD (verified owner)

    I like the training

  12. Dylielah – MCALLEN ISD (verified owner)

    Great

    Good course

  14. Jessica – MCALLEN ISD (verified owner)

Great strategies on building a language rich environment

  15. Allyson – DEL VALLE ISD (verified owner)

This course is helpful in looking at different characteristics of students that you may not have realized could be gifted.

  16. Katherine – PFLUGERVILLE ISD (verified owner)

Very obvious generalizations related to intelligence, gender, and ablism

  17. Amanda – FLOUR BLUFF ISD (verified owner)

Aligns with my T-Tess goals! Every Teacher should be required to take this course not just those teaching GT. I use some of these strategies to help build my non-gifted students and push them to that next level.

  18. Cody – COLLEGE STATION ISD (verified owner)

    wonderful

  19. Ashley – PORT NECHES-GROVES ISD (verified owner)

    Good

  20. Sarah – CARROLL ISD (verified owner)

I always like to do training online and self paced as opposed to taking me out of my classroom.

  21. Noemi – MCALLEN ISD (verified owner)

This course gave me a better understanding of gifted students.

  22. Miriam – HALLSVILLE ISD (verified owner)

Loved the elements on poverty. I’ve done a lot of PD on poverty, but this part was new and very enlightening on my students! I’ve missed a lot of really smart kids and missed on challenging them.

  23. Barbara – MCALLEN ISD (verified owner)

Is too much good information. Hopefully in the future can narrow the information.

  24. Denise – UNITED ISD (verified owner)

It is a great source of information.

  25. Anabel – MCALLEN ISD (verified owner)

This course was very informative and helped me understand how gifted students are identified and how I can help support their learning in the classroom when they have barriers.

  26. Teresa – PRIORITY CHARTER SCHOOLS (verified owner)

This portion was significantly better than the first one that I took. This one had real world application that I can actually use. I just wish her presenting style was different. She comes across as if she is teaching a group of young students, not adults.

  27. Glenda – MCALLEN ISD (verified owner)

I believe we really need to make sure we study the whole rounded child for proper identification.

  28. Juan – MCALLEN ISD (verified owner)

    good course

  29. Fabiola – EDINBURG CISD (verified owner)

    awesome

  30. Joseph – MCALLEN ISD (verified owner)

I felt as though this training included a lot of unnecessary and irrelevant content–personal anecdotes from the presenter–in way that was very slow just so that it could satisfy a time requirement. Also, it was possible to pass all of the quizzes without watching any of the material, so what value is the video content?

  31. Melissa – SOCORRO ISD (verified owner)

I am learning a lot of strategies I can implement in my classroom.

  32. April – SOCORRO ISD (verified owner)

    Very informative and useful

    It was very informative.

  47. Elizabeth – LAREDO ISD (verified owner)

    well structured

  48. Holly – BURNET CISD (verified owner)

I am not sure if it was my device or not but the volume was very low. I would also like to see a variety of speakers instead of only one.
