Educators have a key role in guarding students against preventable tragedies and creating healthy spaces for them in which to learn and thrive. Unfortunately, the leading cause of death in school-aged youth is suicide. The good news is, it is preventable. In this 1-hour course participants will learn to identify suicide risk factors, resiliency factors, warning signs, which populations are at high risk for suicidal behavior, what the legal responsibilities are for school districts and employees, and what to do if a student is identified as being at risk.

Suicide is the most common form of death for school-aged youth, and is entirely preventable. Teachers, administrators, and school employees are in a unique position to help youth who are at risk by identifying those who need assistance and taking preventative actions to help them.

In this 1-hour course you will learn how to: 

  • Identify suicide risk and resiliency factors
  • Identify suicide warning signs
  • Identify high-risk populations
  • Understand the legal responsibilities of school districts and school employees
  • Seek appropriate support for at-risk students
  • Take preventative measures against suicide

    It was a good course, but it would have been more impactful to include the interview with the male teacher who related a story about the female student who was concerned about her ex-boyfriend’s mental health, found a note in his locker, notified school personnel who immediately notified his parents and went to his house where he was about to commit suicide. The girl saved his life. I’ve seen it in previous trainings, but don’t remember whether your company was the training source.
