Description

Students who move from a general education classroom to a gifted classroom have the opportunity to grow and be challenged in many new ways. Receiving quality gifted instruction can be a huge benefit to students. However, sometimes the transition to a gifted classroom can be overwhelming for a student. The new independence, pace, and pressure of a gifted classroom might become too much for them to handle if they don’t have the proper support.

Thankfully, there are things that both educators and parents can do to make sure students transition successfully to a gifted classroom.

In this 1-hour course, “Uncovering and Retaining Gifted Students: Advocating for Historically Underserved Students,” educators will learn strategies from Dr. Karen Zeske to teach students how to handle the challenges of a gifted classroom.

In this exciting course, educators will:
  • review characteristics of student transition to more rigorous classrooms,
  • explore the need for making a deliberate plan for each student entering a G/T program,
  • learn timelines and approaches for systemic support, and
  • learn strategies for school and home to support successful transition for G/T students
