Description

It is impossible to serve the needs of gifted children without first identifying them. Unfortunately, many students aren’t identified until too late in their educational journey. In this 1-hour course, Debra Troxclair, Ph.D. defines what giftedness actually is and presents the reasons why it is important to identify gifted students as early as possible.

In this course you will learn:

  • Different types of gifted students
  • Traits of giftedness that are often mistaken for misbehavior
  • How to identify young children with advanced abilities

I think perhaps a better title is Survey of Various Sources Interpretations of the Characteristics of Gifted Children. I did appreciate the 6 Profiles of the Gifted the most as I read each category in the article and thought of children throughout my years in the classroom who fit each of those “molds.”

  22. Drew – VAN WERT CITY (verified owner)

I enjoyed this course for the straightforward categories, tendencies/attributes of gifted children, and the practical ways to engage children across the wide spectrum of “gifted”. I do believe that there was a bit of stereotyping in there that detracted from the overall message (suggesting gen. ed teachers themselves may be less likely to “understand gifted jokes” or understand how to engage with gifted students than a gifted teacher may be). Solid course.
